Board Game Review: KLUSTER

Kluster is a very simple yet very good fun dexterity game. Very few games use magnets as their core mechanic but this game is literally all about, magnets.

The concept is nice and simple, lay out the orange cord on the table which forms a circle, this is your playing area. The magnetic stones are distributed evenly between all players and then the game begins. The first player (who arguably has the easiest first move ever) places one of their stones in anywhere in the play area. The second player then does the same. Play continues and players must avoid the magnets sticking together.

As play continues it becomes more and more difficult to find spaces for the magnets to go that isn't going to attract another previously placed magnet. If that does happen, it can cause a potential chain reaction of stones leaping to attach to each other. If that happens on your turn, you must take all the stones that are stuck together and add them to your others. The winner is the first player to get rid of all of their stones.

The game itself is very good fun and immediately playable with little to no set up at all. My only bug with the game is that it is quite easily do-able to place all the stones without causing any reactions at all. I found the best way to make this game harder was to create a little slipknot in the cord and make the play area smaller each time a game is completed. This way it gets harder for players and therefore becomes a bit more of a challenge.

If you are looking for a fun, quick, simple and different game to play that fits into simple pub table games from the early 1900s, this is 100% it.
